FERN GULLY / WHITE ROCK MT. 3/31/07

TAKAHIK, TAKAHIK, TAKAHIK

Not suggested for hiking!

The women's first mission; find some woods of their own

(The vehicle on the right would turn out to be vandalized later)

Most thought it was going to rain today, so they didn't come!

TOO BAD!

Some neat rock bluffs right off the bat

So we begin to explore them

It was almost overwhelming

The Bear Crack

This was our way down into Fern Gully

Never hiked in a Bear Crack before

Nature doing her work

Ah, yes Fern Gully

David finds a cave

This is the cave

Vic explaining some of the rock formations

Some of the findings in the cave?

There were so many crevices, box canyons, wheee...

Lots of these

It was a beautiful "gully" indeed

...and Spring was there to greet us

...and these

The water was clear.....

...the colors were something else, too

You had to be there to capture all the beauty

We wandered everywhere

and saw amazing tree formations

..and tighten our "gut' to get through these

Nature's tree sculpture

and yet another one

We had to stop just to catch our breath, too much to take in, in such a short time.  We needed to stay longer!

Still NO RAIN, yeah!

We did this a lot

While Vic rested on this throne

Ah, yes, FERN GULLY

Pam, would like to jump in, I think?

Just enough water to gives us a little treat

It looks like these two are worshipping and praising the "Rock Gods"  No, but we did praise the Lord for all the beauty we saw this day.  You need to check it out for yourselves.

The wildflowers were coming out everywhere.  Just for us!

And so we must part and go on our second adventure.

White Rock Mt. 03/31/07

At the Trailhead

Now, which way do we want to go?

Maybe this!

Our first look off the mountain

...and this was the view, to the south.

The trail runs right along the edge of the bluffs

An old well

Some were thirsty

White Sandstone. Why the Mt. is called White Rock Mt.

One of the shelters along the way

...and the view from it, to the North

...and it was a beautiful day to see that view

We rest and enjoy

...and are amazed

..but we have more to see

...and so off we go again

..and see more "very high" bluffs

...and admire again, the views

Fayetteville just to the left, 24 miles

...and Bidville just over there a bit

A nice trail on a nice day

Dorothy enjoying being out of the wind

...and Pam just enjoying

We were just about to do some rappelling, when we came across this sign. Lucky us!

It took longer to take this picture, then you can imagine!

But on to the Trailhead we go

Ah, gee thanks.  We find this out at the end of our hike.

Wonder what it is like in the fall?

Could it be better than this? No way? Well maybe!

...and more signs like these
