Our first stop.....for a "good" breakfast!

Strapping Up!

Arriving at Ponca

Our shuttle person....Brenda.

Chuck

Danny

Tony

The Three Amigos

Our first goal was to get to Steel Creek

Leaving finally at 9:54 A.M. on Friday

Hitting the trail

Chuck making it through "The Split Rock"

Arriving at Steel Creek 11:25 A.M. on Friday

Re-packing!

Chuck lost his backpack?????

Part of his pack went rolling off the hill! Not pretty!!!

Love the NEW sign

"Peace" on the BRT

At least we are not lost....YET!

How would you like to be carrying this in the middle of the summer?

We  found out later the pack and all the trimmings weighed 41 lbs.

Looking out at Steel Creek Campgrounds

Our fist sighting of The Goat Bluff

It was 2:57 P.M. and time for lunch.

It was HOT and we were already very tired!

I think Chuck was praying here?

We felt like crawling in this hole!

At this point we decided to send Tony on ahead and try and get someone to take him to get our vehicle at Pruitt.

We would abandoned the rest of our trip once arriving at Kyles Landing.

We had a visitor....she wasn't scared, just curious!

Tony heading out to Kyles to try and get some help!

We arrived at Kyles at around 7:30 P.M.

Tony was nowhere to be found....we hoped he had caught a ride over to Puitt to get the vehicle!!!!!!?????

A good sign....only 2.5 miles to Kyles

Chuck was just about "done in". His pack was too heavy, it was hot......and you can guess the rest.

I decided to let Chuck take my pack and I finished carrying his on in to Kyles Landing.

Chuck and I decided to set up camp while waiting on Tony....He was probably at some restaurant?

Tony showed up around 8:30 P.M. with the vehicle.  The Park Ranger took him to Pruitt.  We were saved!

This was Saturday morning and time for breakfast?

These are Chucks pancakes.

Needless to say....it didn't work.

If you ever get a chance to hike the BRT in June....don't do it.  It was HOT, the trail was GROWN UP head high and did I mention it was HOT? Next time we will at least shuttle our backpacks.  But we decided to make the best of it. Lunch at the Ozark Cafe and on over to the cabin and spend the rest of the weekend there.  Not a bad plan at all.

It was time to pull up camp and head to Jasper for lunch.

Ah, real food!

We made it to the cabin. You can see what was the first

thing Chuck and Tony did.

We had all this "trail" food so we decided that is what

On Sunday morning we made a fast trip to the Cliff House for breakfast....we had some really good ideas on this trip...but hiking was not one of them!

we would do for supper.

It was time for church when we got back to the cabin...

All in all...it was a good trip.

Next time we will include the cabin, Ozark Cafe and the Cliff House and leave the hiking for Fall.
